Floral blouse

It was my grandmother’s birthday this week, so I hastily whipped up a present for her. She had mentioned how much she loved the cloth of my summer dress, and as I had a large off-cut left, I made it up into a short-sleeved blouse for her.

The pattern is the S Blouse from ‘Clothing for Everyday Wear’ by Yoshiko Tsukori, and I’m happy to say that I had a much better sewing experience from this book than from my other Japanese sewing book. I’ll write more about this book in another post. Made up in size XS, the pattern is cut rather spaciously. It’s loose and breezy; perfect for this very fine, lightweight cotton. The pattern would be good for a cloth that is light and/or drapey, but anything more robust might seem a bit boxy and I would recommend going down a size or even two (dependant on the shoulder measurement). My measurements fall between size S and M, but I can comfortably wear this blouse in XS.

It’s not my neatest sew due to technical difficulties (a sewing machine in great need of servicing!), but I adore the details: the dipped hem, pinky buttons, topstitching, and the gathered yoke. Details via Instagram:

The blouse looks great when tucked into a skirt or high-waisted trousers. I still have a bit of the fabric left, and I’m really tempted to sew one up for myself! Is it too much to have a matching blouse with my granny?!?
